Wedding - free bar or pay bar?
Been invited to a wedding as a plus 1 on sat and because I am such a scruff I gotta buy new shirt tie and a pair of strides because I am no longer a 32' .

Looking at the invitation it said wedding at xyz church and reception at xyz pub in Chelmsford- then in capital letters was the words PAY BAR.

Is this a new thing? Admittedly I can prob count the amount of weddings I've been to one hand but they was always free food and booze.

Last one I was invited to (but didn't go to) was about 11 years ago in Ireland and that was a pay bar .

So is this a new thing?

I went to one recently and they had a pay bar but the champagne and wine was free, so I got right on that lot

Yes, that's normally the way isn't it? Free initial bits of plonk and dubious fizz then you pay at the bar.

My view is if you hold a wedding then guests should not be expected to pay for drinks.
If you can't afford to pay the bar bill then reduce the amount of guests accordingly. I think it's bad manners to expect guests to buy presents, buy new clothes travel and maybe have the cost of hotels as well to be bad manners really.

No point having a big do if you force friends by invitation to pay for your day!

Only the Poles know how to do a wedding.

I shall invite WHO to my firstborn's for a start.

Not even sure if they are feeding us. I'm guessing there will be some sort of finger buffet .

Annoying thing is it is a work mate of the girlfriends, she is a lawyer and earns twice what i do , so he probably earns more than her.

Many people just haven't got the dough? Never bothered me when I've had to pay.

Did a wedding in Lodz., Poland a few years back. Proper two day affair. None of this wine on the table malarkey. Vodka all the way. I was fucked

I went to a wedding reception at some posh place in Summertown. Basically one of my school mates was marrying into money. Only problem was that they ran out of alcohol at about 9pm. At what was essentially a big house party (and yes, the guests all took drinks too).

Joe - 10.18 . In which case they're horrible tight cunts and you shouldn't go.

Neil, what would Lavrentiy do in this situation?

I agree with hammer205, but then I also think those wedding gift list things are vulgar.

The Polish Standard is 500ml of normal vodka per head.

However, no polish wedding is complete without bimber as Problem Child will attest.

Lavrentiy would liquidate the wedding party FC.

I believe any of Nurse Ratched's attempts at posting on anything remotely social ought to be taken with a pinch of cobalt isotope.

We had a pay bar.

We forked out for a.3 course meal, wine, champagne, welcome drinks and an evening buffet.

Simply couldn't afford a free bar as well.

Weddings aren't cheap

H&P - mildly confused about the 'Polish standard' reference. It was a 'Posh' place, not 'Polish'
